Joseph Cornell's primary medium was the shadow box which
is a form of collage that incorporates the use of both two-dimensional imagery and
three-dimensional objects. Cornell's humble and modestly economical shadow boxes
contain amazing depths of emotion, intimacy and charm; each containing carefully chosen
objects that are sweetly touching and yet resonate abundantly in cultural, historical and
emotional ways.
The music on
Object #1 was composed and arranged in ProTools and in addition to recorded
sounds includes many sounds created or manipulated in Reaktor and Max/MSP.
Most source material is recordings of acoustic instruments and other found objects except
for the occasional use of various amplifiers for electric guitar, bass and for achieving
other distortion and feedback sounds. There is also some occasional use of pure AM and FM
synthesis but the main intent is to use recorded sounds in various
ways to make new sound events.
Object #1 was self-released as a limited, numbered edition of 150 with either
handmade watercolor artwork or an original black and white print.
