Lensing is a mostly through-composed suite written for eight musicians and conductor.
Although incorporating some group improvisation, Lensing focuses primarily on composition which draws on influences ranging from Varese to Morricone and Japanese Gagaku.
Lensing was commissioned by Roulette in 2001 with funds from The Jerome Foundation and was premiered at Roulette on April 18th, 2002 and was perfromed again recently at Roulette in March of 2007.
The members of the ensemble for the recent concert wereRon Caswell on tuba,Jacob Garchick on trombone,Michel Gentile on flute, Dave Ballou on trumpet,Briggan Krauss on alto saxophone,Andy Laster on baritone saxophone,Chris Speed on clarinet andKenny Wollesen on percussion. The ensemble was directd and conducted by Jim Pugliese .
